Indications and Dosage
Subcutaneous
Active immunisation against measles Child: 12-15 months 0.5 mL into the deltoid muscle. 2nd dose to be given at 4-6 years of age. In cases of measles outbreak: 0.5 mL at 6-11 months of age, 2nd dose at 12-15 months of age or 6 months after 1st dose. Booster dose to be given at 6 years of age.

Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to any component of the vaccine (e.g. egg protein, gelatin, neomycin). Severe anaphylactic reactions to previous dose of measles vaccine. Sudden illness with high grade fever, severe immunosuppression (e.g. agammaglobulinema), malignancies (e.g. leukemia, lymphoma), HIV infection, active TB. Recent administration of immunoglobulins and concomitant immunosuppressant therapy (e.g. radiation, chemotherapy, steroids). Pregnancy.

Special Precautions
Patient with history of cerebral injury; family or personal history of convulsions. Children. Lactation.

Adverse Reactions
Significant: Rarely, hypersensitivity reactions (e.g. rashes, urticaria, anaphylactic shock), subacute sclerosing panencephalitis (SSPE), febrile convulsions, thrombocytopenia.
Eye disorders: Eye infection. Gastrointestinal disorders: Diarrhoea. General disorders and administration site conditions: Fever. Injury, poisoning and procedural complications: Rarely, inj site reactions e.g. pain, erythema. Respiratory, thoracic and mediastinal disorders: Cough. Skin and subcutaneous tissue disorders: Rarely, erythema multiforme, purpura. Vascular disorders: Vasculitis. |

Drug Interactions
Decreased effect with immunosuppressive agents (e.g. corticosteroids, antimetabolites), immune globulins, blood transfusion or products.

Lab Interference
Interfere with tuberculin test. May interfere with detection of HIV infection.
|

Storage
Store between 2-8°C. Protect from light.
Any unused portions should be disposed of in accordance with local requirements. |
